Schwartz Castle
Columbus, OH 43215
Schwartz Castle in Columbus is said to be haunted by Frederick William Schwartz, a German businessman and apothecary owner who built the home to impress his fiancé who was still living in Germany. He included lavish designs throughout the construction of the mansion to show how much he loved her, but she ended up calling off the wedding. Schwartz spiraled out of control and would wander around the neighborhood at night barefoot. During this time, he added a secret room to the castle that featured towering ladders and five levels of basement space.
The building has since been converted into apartments. Witnesses have reported feeling eerie cold spots, hearing footsteps on the stairs, and have even spotted Schwartz himself staring through the second-story windows onto 3rd Avenue, or laying naked in the sun on the rooftop (something he used to do after his fiancé left him).
